The website jwhanson.legal is owned and operated by Justin W Hanson Legal Counsel LLC, an Illinois limited liability company dba Hanson Legal Counsel (“HLC,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). Please read these Disclaimer and Terms of Use (“Terms”) carefully before accessing or using jwhanson.legal and any other website operated by HLC that links to these Terms (collectively, the “Website”).
By accessing or using the Website, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Website.
HLC may revise these Terms by posting an updated version on the Website. Your continued use of the Website after an updated version is posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
The Website and its contents are provided for general informational purposes only. Nothing on the Website constitutes legal advice, an opinion concerning any specific facts or circumstances, or a substitute for advice from qualified legal counsel.
Legal authorities and circumstances change, and information on the Website may not reflect the most recent legal developments. You should not act—or refrain from acting—based on Website content without consulting an attorney regarding your particular circumstances.
Accessing the Website, communicating with HLC through the Website, sending an email or message, requesting a consultation, downloading materials, or receiving information from HLC does not create an attorney-client relationship.
HLC accepts a representation only after completing its intake and conflict-review procedures and after HLC and the client execute an engagement agreement or HLC otherwise expressly confirms the representation in writing. Unless and until that occurs, you should not consider HLC to be your attorney.
An attorney-client relationship cannot be created unilaterally and will not arise merely because information is submitted to HLC.
Do not send confidential, sensitive, or time-critical information through the Website, by unsolicited email, or by text message.
Information sent before HLC confirms a representation may not be treated as confidential or protected by the attorney-client privilege. Submission of information does not prevent HLC from representing another person whose interests may be adverse to yours, subject to applicable professional obligations.
HLC has no duty to act on unsolicited information, preserve rights, meet deadlines, or take other action concerning a matter unless HLC has expressly agreed in writing to represent you in that matter.
Descriptions of matters, outcomes, representative engagements, testimonials, endorsements, awards, or prior results are provided only for informational purposes. They do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any future matter.
Every legal matter depends on its particular facts, applicable law, forum, decision-makers, opposing parties, and other circumstances. Results obtained for one client do not necessarily indicate results that may be obtained for another.
The Website may constitute attorney advertising under the laws and professional-conduct rules of Illinois or other jurisdictions.
HLC does not seek to represent anyone in a jurisdiction where the Website fails to comply with applicable law or professional rules, or where HLC’s lawyers are not authorized to practice. A lawyer’s inclusion on the Website does not imply that the lawyer is admitted to practice in every jurisdiction.
Please review HLC’s separate Attorney Advertising Statement for additional information.
HLC and its lawyers may identify fields in which they practice. Unless expressly stated and appropriately qualified, such descriptions are not claims of certification or specialization.
The Supreme Court of Illinois does not recognize certifications of specialties in the practice of law or certifications of expertise by private or governmental organizations, except as otherwise provided by applicable rules. Unlike a valid law license, a professional certificate, award, rating, or professional recognition is not a requirement to practice law in Illinois.
References to honors, ratings, or awards are not guarantees of quality or results. Selection methods and criteria are established by the issuing organizations and may involve peer review, professional achievement, third-party research, or other factors.
HLC endeavors to provide useful information but does not represent or warrant that Website content is accurate, complete, current, suitable, or error-free. Content may be changed, removed, or updated without notice.
HLC does not warrant that the Website will always be available, uninterrupted, secure, or free of harmful components. HLC may suspend or discontinue any part of the Website at any time.
The Website is intended principally to provide information about HLC’s services in jurisdictions where its lawyers are authorized to practice.
Website content should not be interpreted as an offer to provide legal services in a jurisdiction in which doing so would violate applicable law or professional-conduct rules. HLC’s ability to undertake any matter is subject to attorney-licensing requirements, conflict review, and acceptance of an engagement.
The Website may contain links to third-party websites or services. Those links are provided solely for convenience. HLC does not control and is not responsible for third-party content, availability, privacy, security, accuracy, or practices.
A link does not constitute HLC’s sponsorship, recommendation, approval, or endorsement of the linked person, organization, product, service, or content. Use of third-party websites is at your own risk and subject to their terms and policies.
Unless otherwise indicated, the Website and its original text, design, graphics, logos, photographs, downloads, and other materials are owned by HLC or used with permission and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws.
HLC grants you a limited, revocable, nonexclusive, nontransferable license to access and use the Website for your personal, informational, and noncommercial purposes.
Without HLC’s prior written permission, you may not reproduce, republish, distribute, sell, modify, create derivative works from, publicly display, frame, mirror, scrape, systematically download, or commercially exploit Website content. You may not remove copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices.
Permission to use Website content does not include permission to use HLC’s name, logos, service marks, or other branding in a manner suggesting sponsorship, affiliation, or endorsement.
You agree not to:
HLC may restrict or terminate access to the Website when it reasonably believes these Terms have been violated.
Communications sent through the Internet may be intercepted, delayed, corrupted, misdirected, or otherwise compromised. HLC does not guarantee that email, Website forms, text messages, or other electronic communications are confidential or secure.
Unless you are an existing client communicating through an HLC-approved method, do not use electronic communications to transmit confidential, privileged, sensitive, or urgent information.
HLC’s collection and use of personal information through the Website are described in its Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE WEBSITE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.
HLC DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, CURRENTNESS, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, SECURITY, AND AVAILABILITY.
Some jurisdictions may not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, in which case an exclusion applies only to the extent permitted by law.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, HLC AND ITS MEMBERS, ATTORNEYS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, AFFILIATES, AND CONTENT CONTRIBUTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, PUNITIVE, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO:
These limitations apply regardless of the legal theory asserted and even if HLC was advised that damages were possible. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless HLC and its members, attorneys, employees, contractors, and affiliates from claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, and reasonable costs arising from your unlawful use of the Website or material violation of these Terms.
This section does not apply to the extent prohibited by applicable law.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
To the extent permitted by law, any dispute arising from the Website or these Terms must be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Cook County, Illinois, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction and venue of those courts.
If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted, and the remaining provisions will remain in effect.
HLC’s failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of that provision or of the right to enforce it later.
These Terms and the Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement between you and HLC concerning use of the Website. They do not alter or replace an engagement agreement between HLC and a client.
